Yes, congratulations to our super six who made the final cut of tryouts: Jessie DiMartino, Kelley Kim, Andrea Maylath, Gabriella Scalzo, Trish Wang, and Melissa Wong!  It was a tough, tough, super-fast tryout routine you all had to learn this year, but our super six did great and we’re stoked to have you on the team!

That being said, we think it’s about time we got to know some our newbies, and how they felt auditioning!

  1. What year are you at NYU & what is your major (if you have one)?
    Freshman and Childhood Education/Special Education
  2. Where are you from?
    Hopewell Junction New York, Halfway between the city and Albany
  3. How long have you been dancing?
    Since I was 3
  4. What was the worst part about Tryouts?
    I was so sore!!
  5. What was the best part about Tryouts?
    I haven’t danced in a few months so it felt so good to get back into it!
  6. Do you have any special talents?
    I’m pretty flexible.
  7. How would your friends describe you?
    Outgoing, friendly, polite
  8. When is your birthday?
    August 29th, 1991 (same as Michael Jackson)
  9. What is your favorite section in Tryouts (jazz, pom, or hip hop) & why?
    I liked jazz and hip-hop because I was more comfortable with them but pom grew on me.
  10. What is your favorite style of dance?
    Modern or Contemporary
  11. Why do you love to dance?
    It is something that has always been a part of me. It’s my outlet when I have nothing else, and it’s the one thing I think I am good at.
  12. What would people be surprised to know about you?
    I am recently engaged!
  13. What is your favorite quote?
    I know it’s cliché but “Live, Love, Dance.”
  14. How did you feel when you got the phone call from the team telling you that you made the squad?
    Well, she made it seem like I didn’t make it, and I was super upset for like .5 seconds, but then everyone started screaming and I freaked out so much I woke up both my roommates. To say the least it was an awesome feeling!
  15. Are you excited to have made the ’09-’10 Team!?
    I am super excited that all of my hard work has paid off and that I had accomplished something that I really wanted. And I can’t wait to get started!
